At Northern Spire Hearing Services, we believe everyone deserves full, clear access to the sounds from conversation and music to nature and family moments. That’s why our hearing assessments are thorough, personalised, and designed to support your long term hearing health.
Hearing Assessments
Why should I have a hearing test?
Hearing can naturally decline with age, but it can also be affected by noise exposure, genetics, illness, or injury. Many people don’t even realise they have a problem until loved ones mention it, or everyday listening becomes more difficult. Regular hearing tests help you:
- Understand how well you hear across different pitches and volumes
- Detect hearing issues early when interventions are most effective
- Identify challenges in noisy environments that may not be obvious at home
- Track changes over time to guide care and treatment choices
Common Symptoms
Common signs you might benefit from a hearing test include:
Increasing the TV volume or using subtitles
Asking people to repeat themselves
Difficulty following conversations in noise
Muffled or unclear speech sounds
What Happens in Your Hearing Assessment
We take a complete, personalised approach. Our standard hearing evaluation includes:
Detailed Consultation & Medical History
We begin by discussing your hearing concerns, lifestyle, and any medical history relating to your ears and general health. This helps us tailor the assessment to your needs.
Ear Examination & Ear Wax Check
A professional ear examination checks for excessive earwax, infection, or other physical issues that could affect your hearing or the test results — and if wax is present, we can remove it safely as part of the appointment.
Audiometry
You’ll listen to a series of tones through headphones and indicate when you hear them. This measures the softest sounds you can hear at different frequencies in each ear. The result is plotted on an audiogram, a visual map of your hearing levels.
Understanding Your Results
After testing, you’ll receive a clear, written copy of your results. We’ll explain what your audiogram means in simple terms. We will discuss whether treatment, monitoring, or further referral is needed.
Your results help us identify the type and degree of hearing loss, and guide what options are right for you. Whether that’s hearing support, lifestyle strategies, or simply ongoing monitoring.
